HISTORY OF THE CASTAIC LAKE RUN

The run started in 1997 with an astounding 200 runners. This main focus of the 5k run was to generate money for the local non-profit Castaic Lions Club and the Castaic Education Foundation.  This was a community event with boy scouts and girl scouts participating by handing out water at the water stations and assembling participant gift bags.  In addition, we had the honor of listening to the Castaic Middle School District Choir and Advanced Band performing the Star Spangled Banner. It was truly a community event.  By the end of 8 years the number of runners increase to a great 500 participants.

The Castaic Area Town Council (CATC) was formed in 1992, they planned and organized this event and proceeds went to benefit the CATC, Lions Club, the Castaic Education Foundation, and other Community Organizations. Over the years we have added the 10k and most recently removed the 10k to add the 1/2 marathon in 2017.  The proceeds of the event go directly to the schools and the local non-profits that assist in the day’s events.

We have received many compliments for our scenic course with views of the Dam at Castaic Lake. We now have runners participating from around the world.  Our first runner in 2016 was all the way from Denmark and in 2019 a runner from Nigeria.

In 2019 we added a Gnome themed Festival, including live music, food trucks, beer garden, kids activities and more. 2020 will be our 24th Annual Run and once again we will include the Castaic Lake Dam Runs, 5K, Kids Fun Run and Gnome Festival.
